Young Suffolk Artists
New exhibition opportunity for Year 13 Fine Artists at the Suffolk Show
Wednesday 29 & Thursday May 2019
The 2019 Suffolk Show Art Exhibition will be open to submissions of Fine Artists in their final year of A-Levels.
Background: The Show which attracts 90,000+ visitors a year is organised by the charitable foundation Suffolk Agricultural Association (SAA). Our aim is to promote food, farming and the countryside and its importance to Suffolk. We are keen to support wider local Suffolk community and engage the next generation of Suffolk Show visitors. To support our aims, we deliver a wide range of education programmes for young people across the County and most recently we are looking to expand the manner with which we involve talented young artists.
The initiative is entitled Young Suffolk Artists at the Suffolk Show and will be incorporated within the existing Art Exhibition a collection of the best art from the county. We want to showcase 2 pieces of work from every secondary school in the county. The work must be from a Year 13 student studying Art, the artwork must be available for sale (we will offer guidance on pricing and please see the * for a note on centre exam moderation), the submission process is free and the submitted work can be in any media (digital or non-digital).
* We understand that the artwork needs to be part of your student’s end of year show, the centre’s assessment process, the moderation and that the centre will need to keep all work until after the August results. To this end the work will be available for sale from the Show but not available for collection by the buyer until the school has released it pending results etc.
The selection process is as follows – A judging panel comprising of SAA’s members would visit your school week commencing 28 January 2019 to select 2 pieces from a small pool of works that the school has preselected. We will discuss the work, won’t take too much of your time, make a selection and then contact you in March to discuss the logistics of delivering and collecting the artwork. In addition to the above we are also on the lookout for a Young Suffolk Artist who would be happy demonstrating their practice either the first or second day of the Show. Demonstrating artists are very popular with the visiting public. We would like you to put forward someone not only of excellent practical talent but someone who would thrive from this interactive challenge.
Sales, prizes and PR – Experience has shown a demand for small/medium sized and reasonably priced pictures and for this reason, and as space is limited, we request that pictures submitted be no larger than 90cm x 60cm and we suggest that they are priced at no more than £500.00. A commission of 25% plus VAT will be taken on all items sold. All selected artwork must be delivered to Trinity Park on Monday 27 May between 10am and 2pm and collected on Friday 31 May between 8am and 10am.
‘Best In Show’ will be awarded by the judges on the first day of the Show and the winner will be awarded a rosette and a voucher for art supplies retailer. The gallery will be widely promoted through our media partners as well as on social media platforms and we envisage it will gain a lot of attention.
To register your interest please email your contact details, schools name and the type of artwork you would likely to enter to Helen Fomenko by Friday 7 December 2018.
