Why Schools Should Attend

The event is designed to inspire the ambitions of young people opening their minds to the possibilities their futures could hold.

The event supports schools and colleges which are required to meet government expectations related to Gatsby Benchmark scoring.

This is a framework of eight guidelines that define the best career provision in schools and colleges:

1. Stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance

The government careers’ strategy is built around the framework and this event offers a sterling opportunity to inform the planning and improvement of participating schools’ career programmes.  Feedback from schools and careers’ advisors confirms the event contributed to them being able to meet benchmarks 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 & 8.

Travel Subsidy

A travel subsidy will be offered to schools who are required to hire transport for students to travel to the event. The subsidy will only be issued after the event to schools who attend the event and check in at the event reception. The grant offered is at a rate of £100 per coach and £50 per hired mini-bus. We do not pay a subsidy for school owned transport. The Suffolk Skills and Careers Festival reserves the right to withhold the travel subsidy to any school which does not attend at their pre booked time slot. Please assist us with safe management of the event by only arriving during your allocated timeslot.
